Harbor “The book” is integrated with the PROLIB library system
On October 4, 2021, the Municipal Public Library in Tychy officially opened a self-service library of new books called Przystań Książka, what means: Harbour: the book. It is the third device of this type in Poland, and the first to be fully integrated with the PROLIB system used in the library. The vending machine is located in Gemini Park Tychy. It can be used by everyone who has account in the MBP Tychy and its reader card.
The device of the self-service library of new books uses the data stored in the PROLIB library system without the need to replicate them. This applies to both data on library collections and data on various categories of system users, including their authorizations. If the user is not authorized to perform operations in the library system, the device informs the user about this event by means of appropriate messages initiated by the library system. The device allows to borrow collections and return them there.
Such a solution brings a number of benefits for the library and its readers:
- reading promotion,
- facilitating access to library resources,
- convenience for readers,
- security for readers (identification with a library card),
- intuitive operation,
- access to new publications.
